Paradise City Arts Festival This Columbus Day Weekend!

Even a Tornado Cannot Stop Progress At The Studio!

Well it is official. Last week a tornado touched down in Litchfield one block away from our studio. It was quite a storm for a while and even though we were sure “we weren’t in Kansas anymore” work kept going in the studio and gallery. Although, everyone here did take a few minutes to admire the fierceness of Mother Nature and check out the piled up hail.

Of course this week, on a beautiful, bright, sunny day, with not a storm in sight, the studio and gallery lost power for about five hours. The good thing about working so much with hand tools is we could keep moving along on the great pieces that are in the works.

The Hartford Courant – AtHome – Article

Today’s Photo Shoot

We spent a great morning (a what a beautiful day for this adventure!) in a photo shoot with Richard Messina, a photojournalist from The Hartford Courant. Rich came to the studio and gallery and took photos of our work space and some of the pieces in the gallery for an article that will be running in the Home and Garden section of The Hartford Courant in the next few weeks. Podium for the DAR

We just completed a podium to be installed as part of the permanent collection at the Connecticut chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The podium was made from quarter sawn white oak. Daniel recreated the DAR logo using tiger maple, walnut, and cherry. All four woods used in this piece are traditional woods used for woodworking in New England and native to this area. We enjoyed working with the DAR and greatly appreciate the State Regent for choosing us for this prestigious honor.

Daughters of the American Revolution podium

While we are on the subject of podiums, we thought you might like to see another one we created for the historic Warner Theatre in Torrington, Connecticut. Built in 1931 by the Warner Bros. studio, the theatre was a beautiful tribute to the Art Deco style of the times. After years of falling into disrepair, the theatre was purchased by a group of concerned citizens and has undergone a total renovation over the past years. Restored to its former grandeur, the theatre is now an exciting venue for national acts, local community theatre, and is once again showing movies on the big screen. Troy Brook Visions created the podium to reflect the Art Deco decor of the theatre and donated it to the theatre as a way of giving back to the community of Northwest Connecticut. The podium was made from African ribbon-cut mahogany with tiger maple inlays and the famous marquee was recreated using tiger maple and black walnut. Troy Brook Visions Exhibits at Paradise City Arts Festival

We just returned from some time away from the studio and are settling in for summer in the country! On Memorial Day weekend we exhibited at the Paradise City Arts Festival in Northampton, MA, one of the top ten Arts Festivals in the country according to AmericanStyle magazine. The photo below of our exhibit shows just a sampling of the pieces on display at our permanent gallery.

The following week we spent a great four days in Bedford, NY installing an amazing room-dividing tiger maple double cabinet and bookcase. Photos of this piece will be posted soon. Thanks to Scott, Michele and Cescily for their graciousness and hospitality.
